Nvidia unveils Project Shield - Android handheld gaming console capable of PC games
Nvidia, profoundly known in the gaming industry for their graphic cards and processors, have recently announced its very own handheld gaming console. Yes, an actual, working, for-the-markets handheld gaming console.
How this idea of entering the handheld console scene came about to Nvidia really surprises me. After all, handheld consoles aren't really doing at its best now isn't it? When was the last time you bought a handheld, or even seen a friend playing one?
But Project Shield has loads to offer, and I can't say I'm not a little bit impressed about it. It runs on a pure Android operating system and what 'pure' means would be like the Nexus 4 and not a Galaxy S3, giving a simpler, more original feel which I personally believe is way sleeker.
Naturally, Nvidia is going to use its very own Tegra 4 processor which presumably gives it the capability to power 'PC quality' games. Another determining factor on portable handhelds and mobile devices would be its battery life and with the Project Shield, Nvidia had said that its internal batteries will last for 10 hours of gaming and 24 hours of HD video playback.
But what's even more interesting is its ability to stream games from a home Windows PC powered by a GeForce GTX 650 (or higher) onto the handheld console via Wi-Fi. This feature could in particularly be used with the Steam library and with the recently announced Steam Big Picture, this could work brilliantly.
Nvidia hasn't announced its price yet, but did say that its heading to the United States and Canada in the second quarter of the year. For more details on its specs, you can visit their official site at shield.nvidia.com

Steam Big Picture mode for TV goes live
It has conquered PC gaming, owns the Mac gaming market, but is not in any way yet thinking of stopping. In a phase of bigger and greater expansion, Steam has officially released its 'Big Picture' mode in plans to invade your living room.
Oh yes, Steam's Big Picture mode now allows you to play most Steam games on your TV with full compatibility with a game controller. With it, you'll be able to manage your Steam account, surf the web, and definitely enjoy your games at the comfort of your living room.
To celebrate the big move, Steam has also announced a week long sale for all the partially and fully-compatible games with up to 75% cut in prices, and that includes one of our favourites Portal 2!
Oh, did we mention that while using Steam Big Picture with a controller, you will be introduced to an all-new way of 'typing'? Yeah, do check it out. That's innovation, and it's feeling pretty unique right now (though definitely need some time getting used to).

DOTA 2 Confirmed as Free-to-Play with Dota Store
When DOTA 2 was first announced quite some time back, Valve mentioned that the game may need players to pay. Of course, most of us were rather disappointed as after all, we've played (the original) Dota for a long, long time, all for free.
But nevertheless, it's beta was free and since we've got an invite, we didn't really complain much. But now that the beta has been going on for quite some time speculations and rumors have arise that Valve may have changed their mind about getting players to pay.
Fortunately, Valve did. On their official Dota 2 blog, Valve recently confirmed that Dota 2 will be a free-to-play title. But if it is free-to-play, then how would Valve get their money back? Would they use a system like League of Legends or their (in my personal opinion) copycat rival Heroes of Newerth's, who restrict players access to certain heroes?
The short answer is no, all heroes would be available free of charge. However, similarly, players will have the option to buy new skins for the heroes, or for this case, 'cosmetics' for 'customisation' which would be available in their newly-introduced Dota Store (which we would talk about it in more detail later).

Valve Unveils iOS and Android Steam App [Closed Beta]

The company who created the likes of Portal and Counter Strike recently published it's beta Steam app for the Android and iOS platform. By using this app, users will be able to chat with their friends on Steam, join the various community groups, browse through the many collections of games, and purchase them directly from their mobile platforms - iOS and Android.

Steam is arguably the central platform for global PC gamers, and is one of the pioneers who started the venture into distributing games digitally online. Now, with this latest addition of a mobile Steam application, it will only mean that 'hardcore' gaming could be extended further, and deeper to integrate within mobile platforms - might, maybe, hopefully.

Steam Holiday Sale is Back! Bigger, Better, Greater.
Every single game on Steam for free? Just Cause 2 for a mere $4.99 (RM15)? Portal 2 for only $7.49 (RM22.5)? What is this! Okay, seriously, this is not a joke and neither is this a scam. This is simply the ultimate sale a video gamer could wish for - Steam's annual holiday sale which runs until the 1st of January 2012. And the games aforementioned were only two out of the many, many games on massive sales, with some up to 80 and if I'm not mistaken, 91% asdjjkasdh OMG!Anyway, not all the games will remain at the discounted price as some are special daily deals. Therefore, if the games you want are not cheap enough, you may want to check again the next day. Who knows, you may get it at 75% after one week! (:
At the same time, a campaign will be run simultaneously where you will stand a chance to get every single game on Steam for free - but that of course it's the grand prize. Basically, "The Great Gift Pile" gives you six objectives where you will need to easily complete it. Then, you will be automatically rewarded with a 'gift' or a 'coal'. Yes, a coal. But, the twist is that although it sounds stupid and useless, it can be used to 'craft' into a 'gift', or you can save it and the more you have, the better your chances are to win that ultimate prize.
