Malaysia's First Gaming Convention: MaGaCon
And this year, we finally have our first ever "Mega Gaming Convention", or better know as MaGaCon. Like any other international conventions, MaGaCon aims to gather Malaysian gamers together in the spirit of the gaming culture, while experiencing more than merely gaming itself. Excited?
Malaysia's first gaming convention will be held in KDU college on the 17th and 18th of December and will boast an array of activities - from Role-playing to LAN Games.
For starters, console and PC games (about 32 computers) will be available (free of course) and various LAN games will be organised to increase the hype. Although 32 computers may not be enough, especially since there will be some who are reluctant to give the seat away to others, it is a start and it will be enough for active speculation and discussions.
At the same time, boardgame tournaments will also be held (don't underestimate them) as Monopoly and Monopoly deal sets the arena between boardgame enthusiasts. For those who are avid miniature collectors, MaGaCon will host the platform for you to unleash and showcase your dedicated army. There will be a Warhammer 40K hobby tournament and a Pewter Demon painting competition, where players will design their miniatures on the spot.
Interested cosplayers and LARP-ers (Live Action Role-Playing) will also get their shot to outperform other players and undertake thematic "adventures", which is possibly first of its kind in Malaysia. I have to admit I'm not familiar with this but according to their official website, "MaGaCon itself will thematically be presented in-game as a fictional inter- dimensional port city with portals leading to different realities, allowing an amalgamation of cyberpunk, science fiction, fantasy, horror, western, mythology and many other genres to co- exist", and that "the MaGaCon LARP game system has been developed to accommodate a vast variety of characters in role-play scenarios". Though it's rather confusing, it do sound pretty interesting. Well, I guess I'll just find out on the day. (Or, you can read more about it here)
But the biggest thing of Malaysia's first ever Gaming Convention is arguably the Gamerlympics (a olympics-themed gaming tournament duhh) with a golden opportunity to gain an all-expense paid trip to the next Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) in the United States wow! Through the tournament, you will be able to pick up several awards/titles across the various platforms, like "Stud of the Gamer Ladies", "The Dude", "The Pwn-er" and ultimately (should be), "Game Lord of Malaysia" muahaha! LOL. However, the another first of its kind tournament is all about fun, fun, and more fun so just throw everything you got and enjoy. That said, you should register as soon as possible (after checking out my other posts of course :P) as it is only limited to 256 players.
To quote MaGaCon's tagline, "Let's Have fun", I'll see you there! (:
Register your tickets here to get the cheapest price of only RM20 for the two days. Quick!

Puss In Boots Leaps Onto Android

About a month back, Puss In Boots debuted on Fruit Ninja on the iOS platform and was extremely successful. But what about Android users? Well, good news is that the game will be available for us in a few days time - Monday. Though American users will get the exclusive chance of getting the game for free from the Amazon Appstore, we can still get it at a mere $0.99.
A video on how the game will feel like in Bandito mode. Ready?

Mozilla Moz Camp Asia in Malaysia

The Mozillian 'headers', with CEO and Chairperson of Mozilla Foundation Mitchell Baker addressing the Q&A session.
About a decade ago, Internet Explorer (IE) was the dominant player in the browser world and there was basically almost no competition at all. And well, the IE was unfortunately dying and wasn't getting any better - there were little security features and surfing the web was not as enjoyable as today; and here is when Mozilla comes in (duhh.. :P) with Firefox and a whole lot of advancements for greater user experience - essential stuff like pop-up blocker and tabs were introduced. At the same time, as it was an open source platform, it was popular with developers and the introduction of add-ons (though I've got to admit it's not as popular now) has led to a range of interesting features for Firefox users.

The Malaysian Mozilla Community yo! (ME at the right, in green shirt) :D
Anyway, Mozillia's very own Moz Camp, something like a social conference/camp where 'Mozillians' meet up (to socialise and get updated on Mozilla of course), was held in Malaysia for the first time! How cool is that? Usually, it was only Moz Camp Europe but I guess after they realised the potential Asia markets have, the Moz Camp Asia was introduced.

Say hello to Hidzuan, also from the Malaysian Mozilla Community!

Well, what's better than celebrating Satoko Takita, Head of Mozilla Japan's birthday on the first day of the conference! During dinner of course.

Lotss of freebies especially stickers on the day, but I like the Firefox Aurora Laptop Skin best. Super awesome!

Who am I with?? It's Mozilla Firefox!
PS. "I was overwhelmed by the presence of the ginormous fox that I had to blink my eye "
LOL. #superlamejoke #bored

Quote of the day (:
And that's all for the First Moz Camp Asia! Made lots of new friends there though I'm not very sociable, took the offer to be the photographer for the Malaysian Mozilla Community and learnt a whole lot of interesting stuff. Before I end this post, I'll tell you a secret (not really a secret anymore), Mozilla is working on 3D page views, especially for developers.

Paging all Garena users, Blackshot, LOL (League of Legend) and HON (Heroes of Newerth) gamers, this will be something you wouldn't want to miss. Garena Malaysia will be organising a carnival (for the very first time here) on the 17th and 18th of December, at the easily-accessible Berjaya Time Square Theme Park.
As you might have guessed already, Garena will be simultaneously hosting several events during the course of the two days, including tournaments on the three games aforementioned and a beauty pagent for a chance to be named Miss Garena (wow!) Oh, and to liven your spirits even more, the champions will be congratulated with up to RM2,000 and an Alienware M14x Laptop.
And for those who are simply looking for fun, all the 14 rides from both Fantasy Garden and Galaxy Station will be free of charge, unlimited.

Tiny Tower Comes to Android!

Finally! The developers has brought Tiny Tower, a Sim Skyscrapper game with Minecraft graphics, to the Android platform. In the hugely successful game, we get to manage our tower (duhh..) and draw as many bitizens (customers basically) as we can. Well, it's abit like Restaurant City and Hotel City, another widely-popular social game on Facebook. And erm, if you think it's boring, think again, and give it a try, because it's extremely, extremely addicting, and time consuming. So guys, if you are a busy man, take it carefully. Cheers!
You can download Tiny Tower here.

R.AGE Photowalk at Petaling Street
So during the photowalk with R.AGE and SmashPop, we went around Jalan Sultan and one of the main highlights around the area was Petaling Street, or better know as "chee cheong gai" (and the place with lots of cheap stuff). Since it was in the morning, most of the shops were closed or were only opening - only one or two food stalls and a market were operating and that's basically where we went.
